so i wanted to test out this 'how much does the fact that i look asian matter in employment in china' question. so i responded to this ad for a voice recording looking for a 'white american lady'. i told them honestly that i had an american voice but i wasn't stereotypically white. it's a VOICE recording. what could it possibly matter what i look like?
and i called the guy back and he's like yeah, aren't you the one who said you were half korean and half american? (ok so i lied. korean sounds better than chinese, no?)
and then he's like, "well you don't sound very american".
and i'm like. errrr. y'know me. i've got that lisp. that australian accent. god, chinese people. if i had just said i was white, black or reen with purple spots you wouldn't have said that.
then he's like, "korean american- i don't think it will be too much of a problem. well at least you're not chinese american. at least that."
